Where do your travel dreams take you today?

Paul’s and my travel dreams take us to the awe-inspiring Atlantic Coast of Lisbon, Portugal, in the quiet season.

We’re imagining a long drive up the lonely coastal road, past empty beaches of golden sand which sun-lovers and surfers will soon throng.

Grey skies and cold rain create an entirely different mood than summer’s bright and warm summer months.

Strong winds pummel the wild coast, and spectacular waves pound the rocky shores.

And 18^th-century lighthouses keep lonely sentinel.

Portugal’s historic lighthouses still operate as beacons of hope and guidance along this dangerous and dramatic coast.

Like Farol do Cabo Raso, keeping watch over fortress ruins and rocky shores.

And Farol do Cabo da Roca, presiding atop a steep cliff at the continent’s western-most edge.

Today, these historic Portuguese lighthouses continue to operate as literal beacons of hope, navigating and protecting mariners.

And yet lighthouses are also metaphorical beacons of hope, too, guiding and guarding us.

Reader, here’s to finding beacons of hope through stormy gales and dark nights, in travel and in life.
